Autumn 2023 Edition

Autumn 2023 Newsletter

Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter where we will endeavour to keep you up to date with goings on at Weaving Looms and the Toika Loom Studio.
In this edition we are going to look back at the past year of building our business, and tell you about Toika's range of stainless steel reeds. We are also looking forward to Christmas orders and last posting dates.

Weaving Yarn are one year old!

It seems only like a few weeks ago when we waved off Adrian and Grace with a van stacked to the roof with My Fine Weaving Yarn stock!
Weaving Yarn celebrate their first anniversary this week and if you haven’t already got them in your favourites then take a look at their website.
They have continued to grow their range of weaving yarn and we also know that there are new lines in the pipeline. We knew Adrian and Grace were the right people to continue to supply the yarns we knew hand weavers didn’t want to disappear. Thank you for trusting our judgment by supporting them like you did us. Although we have retired from selling yarns we are now concentrating on selling looms and weaving equipment. We can supply looms and equipment from both Toika and Ashford either directly from stock or to order.

The Toika Loom Studio is now open

After the closing down sale we shut the MFWY shop last December. Since then we have concentrated our efforts on stocking and supplying Toika Looms and equipment, with new websites for Weaving Looms and the Toika Loom Studio. We will also be stocking a small range of carefully curated weaving equipment in the coming months. We are able to supply Ashford Looms and equipment either from stock or to order.
The garage which had previously been a yarn store was painted and carpeted to become a welcoming space for customers to try out Toika looms as well as storage for our stock of hand weaving equipment. We hold stocks of a large range of reeds, shuttles, stretchers and more.
Visitors are always very welcome by appointment.

Toika reeds

Toika celebrate 125 years of making metal reeds this year. Gustaf Pihlgren brought the first reed making machine to Finland in 1898. He was the first person to make metal reeds in Finland. Toika is still a small business and is now run by the 5th generation of the same family.
We were appointed as Toika's offical UK agent in 2022 and are able to offer advice across the whole product range.
We have increased the range of reed sizes we stock this year. We keep Toika stainless steel reeds from 30cm up to 130cm in stock in both imperial and metric sizes. Reeds longer than 130cm can be supplied to order. Toika reeds fit most makes of loom, in fact we have yet to find a loom that a Toika reed won’t fit. We will always offer a full refund if you find our reeds won’t fit your loom. Please get in touch before ordering a reed if you are unsure of whether it will fit your loom.

Customer Service

We have been able to take more breaks away from work this year and these will continue. A banner on the website will advise when we are closed and you can always leave us a phone message. Whether we are open or closed we always check email and voicemail messages regularly and will get back to you as soon as we can. Loom customers will soon have a dedicated phone number so in the event of an urgent problem they will be able to contact us directly.

Ordering equipment

We keep good stocks of smaller pieces of weaving equipment, but depending on size, stock and availability some items still need to be ordered for our customers. Shipping costs vary depending on weight and dimensions. Sometimes it is more cost effective to have large items delivered to us to either be collected or for us to send on. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss ordering from the Toika or Ashford catalogues and we can discuss shipping and ordering options.

Christmas orders

We will be placing an order with Toika in early November in order to have any out of stock items ready for delivery before Christmas. If you have any particular requests for any equipment or reeds in particular please get in touch with us by the 10th of November by email or phone.
The last posting date for First Class or Parcelforce 24 delivery services is the 20th December.
